Dallas, you’re looking beautiful! Lawns are flourishing and landscapes are vibrant. We’re seeing some moderate pest activity in the area, keep reading to learn more!

Lawn

We are starting to see small amounts of fungus on lawns. Common summer fungus includes:

  • Leaf Spot
  • Take-All-Patch
  • Brown Patch
  • Black Sooty Mold

Summer weeds, like spurge, are starting to pop up. The best weed control is to mow! Here are our mowing height recommendations:

  • Bermuda Lawns: 1”- 2”
  • Augustine Lawns: 4”
  • Zoysia Lawns: 3”

Combat drought with Water Efficiency Treatments! These applications utilize two products, Hydretain & Hydr8, to trap water in the soil and increase watering efficiency. Hydretain uses science to draw humidity from the air and lock it into the soil, transforming it into plant-useable water droplets. Hydr8 not only enhances this process, it also creates more moveability throughout the soil profile so the water can easily reach the roots. Working together, these products can increase water retention by 50%!

Landscape

It’s pest season! We’re seeing aphids and mealy bugs on trees & shrubs right now. Keep your landscape pest-free with our Tree & Shrub program. We provide pre-emptive & ongoing disease and insect control to maintain the health of your plants. We treat many pests including:

  • Aphids
  • Spider mites
  • Lace bugs
  • Whiteflies
  • Caterpillars
  • Scale insects
  • Mealybugs
  • And more!
Make sure you’re watering your plants before we hit the 100’s! You’ll want to follow this regimen recommended by our Irrigator, Ryean Colby TXLI24762.
  • Water as needed and allow the soil to dry a little between waterings
  • Irrigate at least 1″ of water, in the absence of rain, and advance to 1.5″ during hotter drier months
  • Please ensure you only water on your water district’s allowed watering days
Your trees are thirsty, like the one below!

When adding a new tree or shrub to your landscape, be careful of planting too deep. Follow our planting guide to add the perfect new plant to your yard:

Make sure that mulch is not right up against the trunk of your trees as this can lead to trunk and root rot!

Pests

Here’s the pest activity in your area:

  • Cockroaches: Moderate
  • Rodents: Mild
  • Wasps & Hornets: Mild
  • Spiders: Moderate
  • Mosquitoes: Moderate
  • Fleas & Ticks: Mild

Warning: gross content ahead! American cockroaches, also known as water bugs, are on the loose. Here are some ways to keep cockroaches away:

  • Sanitize your home regularly
  • Take out the trash
  • Store food in airtight containers
  • Don’t leave pet food out overnight
  • Seal entry points
  • Clean up outside (gutters, debris, etc.)

Treat before you meet the pests! Get the exterior of your home treated before you see them inside. Here are some ways to keep your home scurry-free:

  • Be sure there are no water leaks or standing water in or around the home (otherwise, this will cause fruit flies)
  • Be sure weather stripping on all doors & garage doors are sealed, as these are easy access points for rodents.
