Hello Spring!!!

Spring is one of the most important times to perform maintenance on your lawn. You can help prevent your beautiful lawn from being overtaken with weeds and stressed out by drought and heat.  Here are some quick tips on how to prepare your lawn for the spring.

Out with the old

  1. Raking and removing leaves, dead roots and grass will help and encourage better air flow throughout the turf. It will also help prevent disease and insect infestation. Raking also clears the way for mowing, watering and planting seed.

Bring on the food

  1. Fertilizing in the spring jump starts your lawn from its winter slumber. It provides a nutrient build up that will give it the strength to withstand heat stress and drought through the summer months. Mulch for moisture.
  2. Adding mulch around the bases of trees and flowerbeds will help keep plants and their roots moist and warm.

Off with the weeds

  1. Spring can be a great time to re-seed any damaged turf areas, however, you have to be careful when applying pre-emergent weed control. Most pre-emergents are non-selective which means they can prohibit new seed from germinating.   We recommend waiting until the last moment or latest point possible before applying. First focus on the turf repair as early as possible so the seeds can germinate and establish somewhat before applying the pre-emergent weed control.

New haircut

  1. Keep the grass on the longer side and leave your lawnmower on the “high-cut” level. This will help keep the roots more shaded and cool and your grass will grow thicker and healthier.
