Now that it looks like LeBron James’ move back to Cleveland is imminent, we wondered what kinds of grass LeBron would have to choose from in his new lawn. Cleveland lawns can be difficult because the climate is tricky. Although fall is the optimal time to baby a Cleveland lawn, watering needs to be done on a regular basis now. Mowing as well. Remember you should mow long, only about 1/3 of the blade at any time for optimal lawn health.

Summers in Cleveland can be harsh and unforgiving just like their winters. It’s suggested that you fertilize your lawn in the early fall so that it will have food for the long winter. LeBron James, or his lawn care company, will have to fertilize his lawn around Labor Day and then again close to Halloween.  We suggest a slow-release fertilizer as it will have the staying power that is needed to last through a long Cleveland winter.

Now, the types of grass LeBron can choose from are varied. Each is perfect for Cleveland. We’re not sure what he’d choose, but here are his options:

  • Kentucky Bluegrass
  • Perennial Ryegrass
  • Fine Fescue (Creeping Red, Chewings & Hard)
  • Tall Fescue
  • Bent Grass

LeBron James can also use Zoysia Grass and Buffalo Grass if he wants to, but they may be better suited to the southern states than the Cleveland climate.
